It is that very special time of year where Albertans do that thing they love where they go out to the lake, the mountains, or better yet, the lakes and mountains in other provinces!

I’ve taken a blog break the past few weeks and will be officially on more vacation through August, but also been thinking about the various combinations of family time spent this summer. With kids, partners, or solo adventures across here and there.
This week in particular has been harder, since mini-me and his big brothers have gone on their first trek with mom to that province we pretend we don’t like. No, not that one next door, even with some of that province turning into mini-Alberta in the summer. Nonetheless, they took a separate vacation for 8 days and dangit, I’m at that point where I miss them. Individually and in aggregate.

Despite that, there was plenty of kid and L time at Taste of Edmonton before they departed to see the CN Tower or whatever, along with Art Walk with partner C and K Days with partner V. Typical jam-packed times, as there’s a few dozen events a week in the summer to catch or RSVP to.
Ah, trying to absorb the most sun and excitement and activity out of the scant 3, maybe 4 months we get in this land.
Still, it’s a test of feelings and distractions to not miss the kiddo(s) too much while they’re out and manage to get out and enjoy things myself (despite crazy flooding storms) and eventually some solo vacation time. Technically, the vacation part for daddo happens next week, so stay tuned for some Maritime adventures there!

I truly am a summer/fall type of guy, and sharing that with everyone in my life means even more now than it has before. I like to think they’re enjoying it, taking it all in just as much. Despite shifting heat and smoke and storms.
