SPOOKTOBERWEENS PT 2

Hallaleen!

It’s what the mini-me used to call it, but now he’s old enough to enunciate whole words, so he says Halloween as normal. I hate it. Side note to parents: Did this bother you as much as it bother me?

Regardless, it’s been an up and down spooky week both emotionally and physically, but we’ve done some things despite a bunch of snow, a freezing temp drop, a malfunctioning car, and others.

The mobile drive-in theatre was interesting, the country house with a yard full of 200+ inflatables and spooky lights was enviable, the Halloween night market was successful, and…

Dress-up and Cut up Gourds Artistically and go Harass Neighbours Day was very good. Biggest bro shark and mini-me firefighter were first out the door to trick ‘r treat while I was on door duty, and then dad’s turn, and then mama L’s turn driving us to all the grandparents/parent friends to show off and of course shake down for CANDY.

I have never not loved this season for multiple reasons. But child, adult, or in between it’s been more than its parts. It’s the histories, traditions, storytelling, and controlled chaos of the hallowed night and the leadup to it (and the few days after, like Dia de los Muertos!) that combine to make it something more.

I’m glad I get to pass this on and get the youngers and other adults to enjoy it and see it in a new light. So I pass on to you this wisdom…
